Located in the south-eastern part of Tenerife, at a road distance of 28 Km from Santa Cruz deTenerife, it has a surface area of 102,93 Km2 and at an altitude of 289 m with a population of16 251, which has tripled in the last 90 years.

To the north it limits with Arafo and to the west, through the Dorsal Mountain Chain, it limitswith La Orotava. Its southern and south-western frontier is with Fasnia.
